Adult Services
Composed of different programs designed to serve and protect a diverse adult population, 18 years of age or older, either physically or mentally disabled or believed to be at risk or in immediate danger or harm. Referrals are received from community members, family and outside agencies. A caseworker will assess the situation within 3 days and immediate action may be taken to implement any needed services to the individual.

Child Protective Services
Child Protective Services (CPS) responds to hotline reports of alleged child abuse or maltreatment. The CPS team focuses on determining safety of children that may need protection from the actions or inactions of their parents or caregivers. CPS will assist parents and children with locating the services that are needed to maintain safety, permanency and well-being.

Child Support Enforcement Unit
The Child Support Enforcement Unit is a federally mandated program that serves families by locating absent parents, assisting in establishing paternity, obtaining court orders for child support and medical support, and enforcing monetary and medical court orders.

Day Care Assistance
Childcare subsidies help parents/guardians who are striving to be self-sufficient by giving them choices in childcare arrangements and by helping them pay for quality childcare.

Fraud Unit
The Fraud and Legal Affairs Unit investigates all instances of possible fraud as it relates to any programs under the Department of Social Services.

Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP)
HEAP provides assistance with the cost of heating (in winter) or cooling (in summer) to low-income households. This program also provides emergency benefits for households in a heat-related emergency.

Medicaid
The Medicaid division is responsible for determining eligibility for all Medical Assistance Programs not offered by the NY State Office of Health Insurance Programs. The unit is divided into two units: Community and Chronic Care/Supplemental Security Income (SSI)/Aged/Foster Care.

Preventive Services strengthens families: they help parents and caregivers provide an environment where children can thrive. The Preventive team works with the family to improve the well-being of the family as a whole and the safety and security of the children in those families.

The federal Supplement Nutrition Assistance (SNAP) Program, previously called Food Stamps, is an income based program intended to supplement the food budget of eligible households.
