Families & Communities Together

Families and Communities Together (FACT) is an interagency initiative designed to assist families of children who are having difficulty in their home, school, or community; who have numerous complex needs; or who are not making adequate progress despite multiple agency involvement. FACT currently targets children in grades UPK through 12 in every school district throughout Wayne County. The program is a direct service provided by the Wayne County Department of Aging and Youth.

Parent Education/Support

Our Youth Department has partnered with FACT through your school districts to bring parent Education to families in our community. Referrals are completed through your child/ren school district via spots contracted between the school district and our program each year. 

Currently, our Parent Educators are able to provide multiple different curriculums to try and meet the needs of parents. All our Educators are not only trained in each curriculum, but are also parents themselves and understand the demands and struggles Parents face in todays’ society. 

The curriculums used help focus on the following areas:

For Parents with children ages 5 and up:

  • How Brain Develops
  • Understanding your child’s behavior
  • Understanding your child’s decision making
  • Improving discipline
  • Improving communication
  • How to prevent future tobacco, alcohol and other drug use
  • Parenting a special-needs child
  • Things a parent can do to promote and support school success

For Parents with children in their first 5 years of life:

  • Styles of parenting
  • Ages and stages of development
  • Building a bond
  • Your child’s brain
  • Preventing Problems
  • Encouraging Positive Behavior
  • Choices and consequences
  • Preparing for school

For Parents with children in split homes:

  • Planning for peace
  • Disengaging
  • Child Focus
  • Defusing
  • Realigning
  • Learning triggers
  • Negotiating
  • Reflective listening
  • “I” Statements
  • Boundaries

Family Counseling Service of the Finger Lakes

Provides counseling services to youth and their families. Individual and family counseling is available. Sexual abuse counseling is available for youths and adults.
