Aging & Youth

Mission StatementNew York State Association of Area Agencies on Aging

The Wayne County Department of Aging and Youth exists to promote the independence, dignity, health, and quality of life of Wayne County residents and their families; to identify and prioritize community needs; and to plan, fund, and administer a coordinated system of services to meet these needs.

We recently learned  that our longtime partner in Home Delivered Meals in Wayne County, Home Meals Services Inc. (aka Meals on Wheels Wayne County) has decided to stop coordinating volunteers and delivery of meals to our program participants to go out on their own and focus on building their private pay meal delivery business.  This change will be effective April 1, 2022.

What that means for Home Delivered Meal Participants

For individuals who have been privately paying Home Meal Service for Meals, they will now be receiving meals prepared by a different vendor so the menus are likely to be different than they may be used to.  They will continue to receive monthly bills from Home Meal Service for the meals they received.

For individuals who have been assessed through the Department of Aging and Youth and found eligible to receive the meals through our office's program, they will continue to receive meals planned by a dietician and prepared and packaged by The Arc Wayne according to the menus printed in the Threescore.  There will continue to be no cost for the meals, but the monthly letters providing the opportunity to contribute to the program at a suggested contribution of $3/meal will continue.

As a volunteer, you can pick up and deliver meals to older people right in your community!

The change Aging & Youth/The Arc participants will see is that The Arc is now the contact for any changes, stops and starts, etc. for the meals.  The number to call now is 315-879-8350.  Our office and The Arc are actively recruiting volunteers to assist in delivering the meals to our program participants, but do have interim plans in place to ensure that the meals continue to be delivered.

If any of the participants with the Aging & Youth/The Arc program wish to receive their meals from Home Meal Services, they can contact the Aging & Youth office to advise of their decision.  We will forward their information to Home Meal Service and stop their meals with The Arc.  They will receive a monthly bill from Home Meal Service for the meals they receive.  If they later wish to switch back, we will be happy to receive them back.  Our services always require an assessment and may be subject to a waiting list.

Individuals in both programs may see some new faces delivering their meals as both Home Meal Service and The Arc adjust the routes and the current volunteers decide who and when they will volunteer for or as new volunteers are added.

If you have any additional questions, feel free to contact our office at 315-946-5624.
